One Earth, One Ocean, One Life CD-ROM
Attention, ocean creatures! Life originated
in the ocean, and all occupants of this planet, including
humans, are still marine creatures. That's because the survival
of life on land and at sea depends on healthy oceans. And
that's why One Earth, One Ocean, One Life - our interactive
CD-ROM - explores the world's underwater wonders and our need
to protect them.
- Developed by the Canadian Wildlife Federation, Intoinfo
Inc. and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, with support from
Parks Canada, the package commemorates Oceans Day (June
8) and serves as a legacy of the UN International Year of
the Ocean (1998).
- It informs the future stewards of the Earth about their
vital link with the sea through multimedia learning modules:
-"Waves and Whirlpools" introduces students to
the fact that, no matter where they live, they are connected
with the ocean.
- In "Monsters From the Deep," young people meet
mysterious creatures that lurk in the depths of the sea.
-The "Digital Comic Book" traces the life of a
leatherback sea turtle and addresses natural and human causes
of endangerment.
-"Ocean Safari" takes students on a virtual voyage
to marine ecosystems. It focuses on the adaptations of weird
and wonderful creatures to life in diverse environments.
-In "Polar Sea Links," young people trace air-borne
contaminants from Canada's industrialized south to the Arctic
Ocean.
-"Pollution Pursuit" shows students why troubled
water flows where their garbage goes.
-"Ocean Jeopardy," a quiz show-inspired game,
will test students' knowledge of marine facts and issues
learned in modules 1 to 6.
- More than an "edu-tainment" package, this CD-ROM
supplements a wide range of classroom subjects, including
art, biology, environmental science, geography, health,
history, language arts, and math.
- It is brimming with resources to help both you and your
students undertake classroom activities, science projects,
and "ocean action" initiatives.
- It includes an interactive glossary, which provides definitions
for challenging words underlined in all modules.
- It is closely linked with other CWF educational programs,
including Oceans Day, Fish Ways, Habitat 2000, and Project
WILD.
- Each school in Canada has received a complimentary copy
of One Earth, One Ocean, One Life. If you wish to order
more copies, contact WILD
Education.
