Lesson 12: Publicize Your Project

Lesson Information

Summary: Students raise awareness about ocean conservation issues in their community by publicizing their project through a variety of local news media.
Duration:
One hour or more
Group size:
Any
Materials:
No special materials needed

Learning Outcomes

By publicizing their action efforts, students will be able to raise awareness about the ocean and encourage others to help ocean communities.

Background

If your group is working to conserve ocean health, tell the world — or at least your community. You'll be educating many community members about the importance of the ocean and encouraging them to get involved in marine conservation.

Procedure

  1. Complete one of the action projects (Lessons 7 to 11) in this unit.
  2. Brainstorm ways to "get the word out" in your community about what your students have learned and done.
  3. Divide the class into groups and instruct them to select and implement one of the brainstormed strategies.
  4. Alternatively, have your students choose from a variety of other suggestions on how to Publicize Your Project.

Evaluation

Evaluate the messages that students develop for clarity, creativity, organization, and content.
