Ocean Education 2001

Introducing Ocean Education 2001

Welcome teachers and community educators! You are entering the Canadian Wildlife Federation's Ocean Education 2001 learning module. We have packed this module with information, ideas, lesson plans, resources, and links to help you immerse your students in curriculum-based ocean education and enlighten them about their relationship with the sea. They will learn why they are part of an ocean community, no matter where they live.

Learning About Oceans, Unit 7 (2001) was created for Canadian educators by Canadian educators. This module features more than a dozen classroom-ready lesson plans that will help you achieve curriculum outcomes described in the Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes (Pan-Canadian Protocol for Collaboration on School Curriculum). The student-centred, hands-on activities and resource sheets in the module help learners from grades K to 12 take responsible action for aquatic creatures and habitats.

Complementing this year's learning module is a printed package containing a Teacher's Bulletin, Oceans Day 2001 poster, and Save Your Ocean Community board game. Contact CWF to order the package.

Our Blue School program offers funds and awards to schools across Canada to help them learn about their connections to the ocean and improve marine health. A wide variety of projects qualify for support. Click here to find out about Blue School criteria, register your school, and apply for funding. For more information and inspiration, see these Blue School Profiles.

The Blue School Network enables groups to form partnerships or "twin" with other like-minded groups in the Western Hemisphere by registering online. You can Share your successes and challenges with the entire network through our online message board.

Our Oceans Day 2001 page gives you ideas for school and community activities for Oceans Day, June 8. The page also allows you to view and contribute to a roster of events planned for communities across Canada.

The Ocean Education 2000 kit ("Oceans - Closer Than You Think") and the Ocean Education 1999 kit ("Keep Ocean Life on the Move") are both available online. Contact CWF to obtain kits from 1995 to 1998.

Our interactive CD-ROM, One Earth, One Ocean, One Life, explores the world's underwater wonders and informs the future stewards of the Earth about their vital link with the sea through multimedia learning modules. Contact CWF to order your copy of One Earth, One Ocean, One Life.
