National Wildlife Week
Call it spring fever. Canadians go wild every April during National
Wildlife Week (NWW). That's the week including April
10th, the birthdate of the late Jack Miner, one of the
eminent founders of Canada's conservation movement.
- The Canadian Wildlife Federation has sponsored
NWW since 1963, in cooperation with provincial and territorial
governments and the Canadian Wildlife Service.
- An educational
kit is produced each year featuring a different conservation
theme, such as water resources, community action, biodiversity,
sustainability, shoreline habitat, climate change, invasive
species, or endangered species recovery. Visit
the Learning About Wildlife section for kits from previous years.
- During NWW, the federation encourages schools and communities
nationwide to celebrate wildlife in all its diversity
through nature hikes, mall displays, poster contests, film
festivals, and habitat restoration projects.
- Each year,
through the NWW
Awards, CWF recognizes
students and youth groups for their extraordinary efforts
to enhance wildlife habitat.
- This year the theme focuses
on Canada’s intriguing protected areas and on the special wild places that mean so much to each of us . The slogan is “Explore and Embrace a Special Wild Place.” Find out more here!
