Habitat Projects: Request for Funds*
Criteria
Gung-ho But No Dough
If your funds don't match your enthusiasm, CWF can give you
a boost. Do you qualify for assistance from our Habitat fund?
Chances are you do, provided that your wildlife project meets
certain criteria. Of course, cleaning or beautifying an area
isn't enough. You have to explain how wildlife will benefit.
To apply for funding, use the Habitat
Projects Registration Form and keep the following points
in mind:
The federation will only consider applications for funding
that demonstrate student initiative in all phases of a project
to ensure that learning outcomes are met.
Any grade - from kindergarten up to and including high school
- is eligible. Youth groups supervised by qualified leaders
are also eligible.
Funds are available for the purchase of non-capital equipment
and supplies needed specifically for Habitat projects; for
example, plants, trees, seeds, hardware, and lumber. Transportation
costs are not covered.
Plantings must consist of native vegetation.
Funding is limited to a maximum of $200 per class and $500
per school.
Funding is not retroactive: projects must be registered with
CWF before they can be considered for financial support.
Please apply only for the amount of money you need. Try calling
on volunteers, getting your community involved, or having
students bring what they can, such as hand tools or rakes,
from home.
The Habitat fund selection committee meets in April/May and
October/November and evaluates all applications according
to a point system. Special consideration is given to the age
level and number of students involved in a project, its complexity,
and the extent of community and/or volunteer support.
Groups supported by the Habitat fund must provide follow-up
photos, slides, or written descriptions of completed projects.
Long-term projects are eligible for funding each year, as
long as follow-up is provided for each phase completed.
